The Hairy Hooman project is a discursive initiative that repurposes human hair waste in design. A survey conducted with 65 respondents, primarily aged 18-24, revealed a significant negative perception towards human hair waste. Through material and subject explorations, the project aims to desensitize and challenge this perception, presenting human hair waste as a viable material for design. Drawing from theories of 'Speciesism,' the project seeks to address the human-animal relationship, shifting perspectives by reversing roles (using human products on animals) and fostering empathy towards the material through the lens of a dog.
