Nadine a enseigné et pratiqué la communication visuelle sur trois continents. Ses réalisations en design ont été présentées lors d’expositions individuelles et collectives, notamment au Canada, en France, en Pologne, au Japon, en Corée, à Singapour et aux États-Unis. Son champ de pratique en design se concentre sur la typographie expérimentale et le langage visuel, tandis que ses recherches explorent les pratiques de design critique, l’application des processus de design dans le domaine du non-design, et l’enseignement du design graphique.
Nadine a entamé sa carrière académique à l’Université Laval (École de Design) à Québec en 2002, tout en poursuivant une équivalence doctorale et en participant à plusieurs résidences en design graphique (R2 Design à Porto, KarlssonWilker à New York, Agence Minit-L à Paris). Elle a obtenu sa titularisation académique en 2007 et a dirigé le programme de Baccalauréat en design graphique pendant un an avant de déménager à Hong Kong en 2008. À Hong Kong, Nadine a poursuivi son parcours académique en tant que Professeure invitée à la Hong Kong Polytechnic University et comme Professeure à la Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD, campus de Hong Kong).
En 2017, elle a rejoint le LASALLE College of the Arts Singapore (nouvellement de University of the Arts Singapore), où elle a occupé plusieurs postes, dont ceux de chargée d’enseignement, Directrice de programme (diplôme et baccalauréat) et Directrice de l’École de Communication Design, travaillant avec 500 étudiants et 35/40 enseignants pour les trois programmes – MA Design, BA(Hons) Communication Design et Diploma Design for Communication and Experiences).
En plus d’enseigner à des étudiants de premier et deuxième cycles, Nadine a été sollicitée pour l’évaluation de portfolio d’étudiants diplômés (Intuit. Lab Institut Français du Design, Paris) et pour des ateliers (VCUarts Qatar, Doha). Elle a également participé à plusieurs processus de reconfiguration de programmes d’études et d’accréditations universitaires (Université Laval, SCAD, LASALLE).

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: DESIGN EDUCATION / MANAGEMENT & ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP

As the Head, I provided leadership to the School of Design Communication to develop a vision and proactively raise the profile of the School in line with the overall strategic direction of the Faculty and the College. Key responsibilities included developing strategic engagement with the art and design sector, enhancing external academic and industry partnerships and projects both locally and globally. The role required to develop and drive agreed strategies for the School, to implement its operational plans within approved budget, to oversee the staff team and to contribute to the planning, design and delivery of the curriculum.
Program LeaderBA(Hons) in Design Communication (200+ students)
As a Program Leader, I was responsible for the BA program’s strategic and operational matters. Key responsibilities included curriculum development, planning and coordination of classes, and managing students’ projects and exhibitions, managing the program efficiently within the allotted resources and budget, which includes the selection and management of part-time staff and a range of visiting artists. The role required to actively furthering staff professional development, practice and research and to set the tone and strategic direction of the program to meet high standards of excellence.
- Community Engagement: Designed community engagement projects for students to work closely with the National Art Gallery Singapore, the National Design Centre, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, etc. The projects ranged from urban art murals, to roving art trucks, to exhibitions, etc. I have also curated and organised art and design exhibitions for the public at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, Orchard Cineleisure (a collective of food, fashion and leisure), and Raffles Place Park (outdoor park).
- Industry Engagement: Designed live projects to give our students the opportunity to work closely with industry partners such as R/GA, Forsman Bodenfors, DBS Bank, Design Bridge, MullenLowe, etc. Also, organised Industry Guest Talks, Webinars and Online Collaborations, Creative Workshops, Art & Design Portfolio Surgeries, etc.
- Cross-Disciplinary & Interdisciplinary Projects: Organised workshops for the BA Interdisciplinary Week where students from all disciplines (visual arts, performing arts, product design, dance, animation, music, etc.) are working together on a given topic.
- International Collaboration Projects: Developed an online International collaborative art and illustration project with OCAD (Ontario). The outcomes were exhibited in their gallery in Toronto. Had students to participate in International Photography, Illustration, and Design competitions, as well as Art Book Fairs (Melbourne, Taipei, Bangkok, etc.).
Program LeaderDiploma in Design for Communication and Experiences (230+ students)
- Community Engagement: Designed community engagement projects for students to work closely with the National Art Gallery Singapore, MINDS (Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore), the Singapore Land Authority, etc. The projects ranged from urban art murals, to roving art trucks, to exhibitions, etc.
- Industry Engagement: Designed live projects to give our students the opportunity to work closely with industry partners such as VANS, Coca Cola, Hermes, TAG Heuer, Design Bridge, Levis, Kavrat, etc. Also, organised Industry Guest Talks, Webinars and Online Collaborations, Creative Workshops, Art & Design Portfolio Surgeries, etc.
- Cross-Disciplinary & Interdisciplinary Projects: Developed Cross-disciplinary projects for our students to work in collaboration with students from other disciplines such as music, dance, fashion and film. The outcomes ranged from live performances, to VJing projects, exhibitions, AR poster designs, etc.
- International Collaboration Projects: Had students to participate in International Design competitions, as well as Art Book Fairs (Melbourne, Taipei, Bangkok, etc.).
Program LeaderBFA in Graphic Design (300+ students)
Led the Graphic Design Faculty meetings, planned the semester’s schedules and course offers, revisited the curriculum and the course contents, guided the students in their course choices, hired and mentored the new part-time faculty, created and kept connections with the high schools/colleges, and promoted the programme.

- OR play: The aim of the project was to develop a collection of designed objects inspired by the value of play, the love of nature, and the importance of sharing traditions. Thelimited-edition collection was selected by the Quebec Beaux-Arts National Museum to be featured in their art & design shop.

DesignerDesign Residency
Karlssonwilker Inc. is involved in a range of projects for cultural and commercial clienteles (MoMA, Remai Modern, The New York Times, Vitra, Sotherbys, MTV, etc.). The studio is well known for it several tours on ‘real-time design’ projects, in Serbia to make a calendar with Publikum Publishers, in South Africa for Interactive Africa, in Jerusalem for the Israel Museum. These design adventures, where Karlsson and Wilker (the founders) are ‘living’ their design process on film and through workshops and performance, provides real insight into the pair’s unfiltered and unconventional design practice.
Princeton Architectural Press published karlssonwilker first monograph, Tellmewhy: The First 24 Months of a New York Design Company, now a collector’s item. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: ACADEMIC AND DESIGN ADMINISTRATION
Graphic Design Scientific and Professional Committee Member
The World Design Summit was organised in collaboration with the International Council of Design (ICO-D). I was invited to be part of the commitee in charge of defining the conference themes, reviewing the paper proposals and selecting the keynote speakers. Designers, researchers, policy-makers, NGO’s and entrepreneurs from all around the globe were gathering for a 10 days design immersion. The event took place in Montreal, Canada (October 16 to 25, 2017).
